Have you ever stopped to think about what it is about money that makes people do silly things? Why people sacrifice so much of their time for it, put huge amounts of effort towards accumulating it; growing it and protecting it? The fact is money is different things to different people. While I can’t speak for everyone, I can speak for myself. At the basic level we need money to buy goods and services to survive – food, water and shelter. Beyond that, the sky is the limit.
To me money is a tool that enables anyone, with enough of it, the freedom to do what they want with their time. I believe that most people, in countries such as Australia, live in time of abundance. Many people make enough money to thrive financially and build lives with the freedom to do what they want with their time, however, due to a lack of financial knowledge and discipline are not able to manage their finances in a way that benefits them in the long term. This needs to change.
If you’ve read the “About Me” section you’ve probably guessed that freedom is something that is immensely important to me. The freedom to spend my time and effort how I see fit is something I believe is crucial towards living a happy and meaningful life. While I’m on this financial independence journey I’d like to use this blog to share with you some of the things that I learn along the way.
I’ve engineered my life with the intent of accumulating enough money to achieve financial freedom whilst still living a life of abundance. I hope that the initiatives I’ve put in place now will one day give me the freedom to work a more flexible schedule and allow me to control of the most important non-renewable resource of all – time.
So why should you care?
Imagine what your life would be like if you didn’t have to work for money. Think about the meaningful pursuits that you would devote your time and energy towards. Who would you choose to spend your time with? How awesome would you feel? Motivated yet?
It’s time to take control
